The Vacuum of Sound

A poem I wrote inspired by 13 Reasons Why

Everything sounds different today
The trees do not rustle

The birds do not sing
And it is all for the absence of your voice
The sounds of life are muffled

Car horns do not blare
I cannot feel the hushed whispers nor the violent stare
Perhaps it is better

To not hear your voice
Hear your words, smooth your lips
You have never heard my voice

Just the sound my mouth makes
No one ever hears an absence
I want to hear your heart
But it stopped beating
