After The End – Patricia Thomas

Hi everyone,
So this is my book review for After The End by Patricia Thomas, I received this book from Netgalley! (Hint, if you haven’t already you should sign up! It’ll get you out of your post-acowar reading slump.)

I really enjoyed the premise of this book, it was such an interesting concept and though it took a little getting into; I really liked it. The general premise is that after a writer stops writing their book or a character’s part in the book is finished, they go to a different world where all of the book characters are. They of course, didn’t realise they were book characters so they’re very confused. As a bookworm myself, this book is great fun for readers.

I feel like more could have been done with it though, it was particularly fun to think of different ways the author could have had some fun with the concept. For instance, are there famous book characters there? Like Romeo and Juliet? I mean, it would’ve been great if that had been a main character! So yes, an interesting concept, but I feel like it was quite a serious book and more humour/fun could have taken place, which I like in a book.

The book was well written and the characters showed depth, which is ironic considering how little about themselves they really know.

I read the first teaser chapter at the end of the book but it didn’t grab my attention in the same way – probably because I was hoping for more on the same characters.

Overall, an interesting world complete with an interesting plot. Not too much comic relief but definitely a good read.

Have you read this book? What did you think? Let me know in the comments!
Happy Reading!
