My First Birchbox

Hey guys,

The other day I decided to try out Birchbox after seeing it mentioned in a Buzzfeed article.

I love to shop but I wanted to be exposed to some new brands and hopefully try something new.

So the way Birchbox works is through subscription. If you’re a student you can get 50% off your first box, and there are lots of promotions on to get extra free gifts each month. You get one box per month, and including postage I paid £12.95 (to the UK and before I applied my student discount). You can do a monthly subscription (£10 plus postage) or 6 months (£60 plus postage) or yearly (£110 plus postage), you can also cancel at any time.

To create your box and profile, you are asked some questions to find out what kind of products you might be interested in. This helps tailor each box to your personal interests. Though I have to say that the things I received in my box are not necessarily things I would go out and buy or even look for in the shops.

In the box you receive around 5 sample products, try them out and if you like them you can buy the full-size version online at Birchbox, usually with some kind of discount.

After trying out one Birchbox, I don’t think I’d buy again. I’m not hugely interested in buying from big brands just for the sake of buying from a big brand – I prefer to find the things I like and go from there. To me, Birchbox felt like something geared up towards people who like the more expensive range of brands, whereas that’s not a huge priority for me. I’d rather have something that’s Boots own and works how I want it to than something that’s £50 and crap.

For those of you interested, here is what I received in my box.

Included was:

  • 1 Lord & Berry Concealer Stick in Beige
  • 1 Paul & Joe Moisturising Foundation Primer In 01 Dagree
  • 1 Nuxe Prodigieux Shower Oil
  • 1 Beaver Professional Daily Conditional Spray
  • 1 Afterspa Amazing Makeup Remover

There’s definitely a lot of variety here but considering these are sample products and not something I would necessarily buy in the shops, I don’t think I’ll be buying another box any time soon.

Have you ever used Birchbox? Did you like what you received?

Keep shopping,

  1. I was exactly the same when I had a Birchbox subscriptions, it took me a few boxes before I cancelled and I do not regret it. I think it’s clever to sample out products without paying full price for something you might not like, but you are still paying over a tenner for things that aren’t that great/brands that I’ve never heard of, great post🌟
